Unknown Pleasures Topographical Lines

This unique series of national park posters was inspired by the iconic cover of the 1979 Joy Division album, Unknown Pleasures. 

The painstaking process of creating this artwork involves a little cartography, a touch of computer science and a little graphic design. Our designers start with the satellite elevation of the national park, cropped it to the extent of the park, extracted transects with elevation data and then use a custom-written computer script to format the data into the the pleasing representation you can see in the finished product.
